Public Servants Need to Be Age Limited
We’ve now had two high profile instances of public servants overstaying their welcome and causing immense damage to the Republic. RBG (Ruth Bader Ginsberg) was the worst because she allowed trump to appoint three SCOTUS justices and irredeemably biased the Supreme Court for the next 30 to 50 years. It was bad enough that she allowed trump to replace her with ACB (Amy Coney-Barrett) but did so knowing that trump had already appointed Gorsuch and Kavanaugh. I’m sure, in her mind, RBG thought she was invincible. After all, hadn’t she already accomplished so much? How could she possibly fail to wait out trump before expiring. Well, as we know, RBG kicked off in 2019, allowing the moron to appoint a fundie-vangie air head who has never tried a case in a court of law and belongs to a cult straight out of The Handmaiden’s Tale.
Now, we have Diane Feinstein who, fortunately, kicked off during a Democratic administration so Newsom, the Democratic California governor, has a chance of filling her seat with another Democrat. Still, knowing the baloney Moscow Mitch McConnell pulled on Obama to yank the rug out from under Merrick Garland’s nomination to SCOTUS, I wouldn’t bet a plugged nickel Senate republicans won’t come up with more BS to avoid seating another Democrat. Feinstein could have prevented all these shenanigans if she had recognized and accepted her mortality and worked with Newsom to proactively replace herself. Many are lauding Feinstein’s many “firsts.” The first woman president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, The first female mayor of San Francisco, the first female Senator from California, ad infinitum, ad nauseam. But, for politicians, setting records for being first doesn’t mean squat, it’s what they leave behind after they, inevitably, leave office. Is this photo of DiFi someone you want to represent you in the Senate?
Now, we come to Biden who, at 81, is an old fart even to old farts like me. Who can guarantee that Joe won’t keel over in the middle of the night like DiFi. Does the Democratic Party want to be scrambling around at the last minute, trying to replace dead Joe? Do they even have a plan for what to do in such a case?
Of course, the MAGA moron isn’t much better off at 77 with the eating habits of fat slob who can never walk past a hamberder. So, in the overall scheme of things, trump could just as easily keel over of a heart attack or stroke during the 2024 campaign. He could get so agitated during one of his trials between now and November 2024 to the point his head literally explodes from an aneurysm. That would be reason enough to designate that date as a national holiday! But, I digress.
The Constitution has several issues that must be fixed quickly. First, no one over the age of 80 should be allowed to take office. A second issue is a provision to deny office to anyone under federal indictment or, of course, convicted. As it stands now, the US could have a convict presiding over the nation from prison. As ludicrous as that sounds, there’s no law to prevent it. In fact, it’s a known fact that, if elected, trump will declare himself emperor for life, eliminating any and all semblance of a democracy.
As of August 2023, there are 19 Senators and Representatives over the age of 80. Of these, 7 are republicans and the remaining 12 are Democrats including Bernie Sander who caucuses with Dems. The odds are stacked against the Democratic Party that a Dem will croak before the 2028 election. Not all states have straightforward succession laws. It’s possible some may be replaced with a republican. It’s imperative these doddering octogenarians be replaced with younger Democrats.
